If Grand Master said it, then it must be true!

Have you heard the above comment before?  When the Grand Master says something it is believed by most of the Craft that it has to be true, especially when you consider the type of good material that a Grand Master should be selected from.  Hence, Grand Masters or any Master Mason for that matter should always tell the truth.

It is said that our Grand Master stated that there were Grand Masters before there were Grand Lodges. What was the intent of this statement?  Is the intent to state that the Grand Master is above the Grand Lodge?  If this is the intent then how can a Grand Lodge tell a Grand Master what he can and can not do?  When we consider the times of old, there was a time when the victor of a war proclaimed themselves to be whatever title that suited them, such as, King, Monarch or Grand Master, etc.

In today’s society, Grand Lodges come before Grand Masters.  For our history buffs, take the jurisdiction of California , the Grand Lodge existed before the Grand Master.  The Grand Lodge of California was constituted by the National (Compact) Grand Lodge where John T. Hilton served as Grand Master.  Brother George Wysham, N.D.D.G.M., at a special called convention constituted the jurisdiction of California as “The Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Ancient York Masons” where Philip Buchanan was elected as the first Grand Master, June 19, 1855.

Now, your attention is now called to our constitution and the California Grand Lodge organizational chart.  Our constitution states that the Grand Lodge is composed of the elected Grand Lodge officers, Board of Directors, the specified appointed Grand Lodge officers, all Past Masters, Worshipful Masters, Wardens and the lodge representatives, if there be any.  These are the only members of the Grand Lodge and they are in charge and they have the vote.  When in session, the Grand Master only presides, but the Grand Lodge members have the power and are in charge.  This should not be taken lightly.

Look at the attached California Grand Lodge organizational chart just in case someone is confused where the Grand Master’s position is on this chart.  Now, the question is asked again, “Does the Grand Master’s position come before or after the Grand Lodge in the jurisdiction of California ?”

The Truth                                    Updated 07/27/11

Prince Hall Arms is a senior citizen housing project located in Berkeley, California.  The project, under development for over 10 years, is sponsored by the non-profit MW Prince Hall Arms, Inc.  This independent corporation was formed by East Gate Lodge #44 F&AM and the MW Prince Hall Grand Lodge of California F&AM.

The project came under attack from a most unlikely source.   A lawsuit was filed on November 6, 2008 by the MW Prince Hall Grand Lodge of California, F&AM to kill the project.  This web site was originally created to shed light.  We don't know if the Grand Master's attempts to stop Brothers from asking questions and change the line of succession to the Grand East has anything to do with his desire to kill this project.  At this writing, Brother Tyner is out of office.  The current Grand Master (Brother Phillips) has not reversed the actions of his predecessor. The Grand Lodge has spent over $100,000 in legal fees in an attempt to stop the project and discredit the developers and brothers supporting the project.  We hope this Grand Master can explain his actions. Judgment Day comes to us all.

Transcript of Court Proceedings - November 19, 2009

Attached is a copy of the transcript of the proceedings that occurred on November 19, 2009 when the court heard the Grand Lodge's opposition to our request to expunge the lis pendens. As you know, on November 24, 2009, the court entered an order granting our motion to expunge the list pendens and also or us attorney's fees. The copies were scanned into my computer so there may be some spaces in the copy that do not appear in the original. The wording is not changed.

On December 10, 2008, Grand Lodge filed a motion for reconsideration of the court's imposition of attorney's fees. Byron Michael Purcell, Charles E. Tyner, Herby Price, Jr. and Billy G. Harrington submitted declarations to the court to support their motion for reconsideration citing that the declaration contained new information.

The arguments will be heard at 9:00 A.M., February 18, 2010, at 1221 Oak Street, Oakland, CA 94612, Department 25. I can assure you that our attorney is prepared to vigorously oppose the motion with substantial evidence to rebut their argument. Editors Note:  The Grand Lodge Lost and filed an appeal. See Feb. 22, 2010 article above.
